Sky Sports News understands Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer would be interested in a move to Arsenal.

Arsenal are believed to have made the 37-year-old their top target as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options this summer.

The Gunners have already seen one bid rejected last month by Fulham for the former Middlesbrough shot-stopper, but they remain keen on luring Schwarzer to North London.

However, reports that Schwarzer has already undergone a medical at Arsenal have been rejected with the player currently away on holiday as he recovers from his World Cup exploits with Australia.

Fulham are loath to lose Schwarzer, but they could face a fight to keep hold of the keeper if he pushes for a move to the Emirates. (Sky Sports)

Arsene Wenger appears keen on bringing in a keeper and Mark Schwarzer it seems high up on his wish-list. Clearly the 37 year old would only be a short term solution to the problems encountered with serial blunderers Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski.

Almunia in particular has a habit of going AWOL in big games and the Fulham keeper has a lot of experience and is seemingly very happy with the potential move from west to north London. Now that Roy Hodgson has left Craven Cottage there seems more of a chance that a deal will be reached as a new boss may well have his own ideas about who he wants to use as custodian.

Luckily the Gunners have two good up and coming keepers in Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny so it could be that both youngsters are ready to take the mantle of first team regular in a year or two.
