Tottenham’s interest in the £5 million-rated Bellamy could be firmed up over the coming days, with officials from both clubs due to meet in New York next week during their pre-season involvement in the New York Football Challenge. Spurs have also been monitoring City defender Richards, who would be available for £10-12 million. (Telegraph)
Harry Redknapp loves transfer windows. He must count down the days until he can start planning his usual myriad of moves. The thing is, does the Tottenham manager need to make shedloads of new signings? Probably not. After all he has just taken the club into the coveted Champions League slot and seen his entire squad help to get them there. He has seen those frustrating performers such as David Bentley and Gareth Bale become the players they both threatened to be. He has quality players in just about every position and in most cases an international level replacement to boot!
That said these two Manchester City men could offer an added something and appear to be available on the cheap as Roberto Mancini looks to trim his wage bill and make room for more big name signings.
If the White Hart Lane boss can seal both these deals he will be getting two adaptable players with good experience. In Craig Bellamy they get an attacker who has been converted wisely into a wide man and is arguably in the peak of his career, having had two very good seasons at Eastlands.
In Micah Richards the north London club would get a player who has massive potential and can play at full back and in the centre of defence and is looking to prove a point as he seems surplus to requirements at the City of Manchester Stadium.
