Wenger hopes to bring adaptable Dutchman to the Emirates.
Arsenal are readying a bid in the region of £9m for impressive Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay. Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the PSV Eindhoven playmaker and is ready to push on with a move for the 24 year old and hopes that a bid this summer will be accepted as the talented flair player’s contract runs out in the summer of 2011, at which point he will be free to leave for nothing.
Afellay has spent the last five seasons as a first team regular at the Philips Stadion and appears ready for a new challenge having already secured the Dutch Eredivisie title on four occasions. The adaptable attacker is also looking for a move that will help him secure a regular starting spot in the national team squad after spending most of the recent World Cup campaign stuck on the bench.
Wenger is apparently ready to make a bid for the Utrecht born star after years of trailing him knowing that his employers will need to act fast to avoid allowing the player to run out a contract he has no intention of renewing. A move could well be accepted given the fact PSV finished outside of the Champions League qualification places and needs to recoup funds for the coming season.
Talking of the player’s current deal, agent Rob Jansen stated “The contract between Ibrahim and PSV expires in June 2011, so we are not in a hurry to renew.” thus indicating that his client is clearly weighing up his future after spending his entire professional career at the club.
