Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is closing in on the signing of Danish international Christian Poulsen, with the reported £6 million move to be funded through the sale of want-away Argentine Javier Mascherano.
Hodgson is keen to offload the anchorman to fund his Anfield overhaul, with the players refusal to contact the Liverpool hierarchy sealing his fate. The Kop boss will want at least £20 million, with former manager Rafa Benitez keen to bring the star to Inter Milan.
Poulson is seen as an ideal replacement for Mascherano, and would leave much needed funds left over for Hodgson to sign a left-back and backup striker for Fernando Torres.
