Villa Park boss wants Stephen Ireland as part of Eastlands swap deal.
James Milner’s move from Aston Villa to Manchester City is a “done deal”, but Martin O’Neill is holding out for at least £25m, The Independent on Sunday understands.
An impeccable source said that the Villa manager would hold out for every penny he could get for the England midfielder but that O’Neill would be interested in a player-plus-cash deal, with City’s Stephen Ireland of particular interest.
The City centre-half Nedum Onuoha has also been linked with a switch to Villa Park as City’s spending spree means academy products such as Ireland, Onuoha and Michael Johnson could be surplus to requirements. (Independent)
Clearly Martin O’Neill is very worried that he is fighting a losing battle to keep the England winger leaving and he wants to get as much as he can for the 24 year old and if he can get a player into Villa Park as part of the deal then he will be far more likely to play ball and allow Milner to join Man City.
It does seem that a deal will be struck and the Villa Park boss is due to talk with the former Leeds and Newcastle United player today to see if there is any hope to keep the player at the club.
What do Aston Villa fans think is a fair price for the attacker?
