Old Trafford outfit look to beef up their midfield with move for French international.
Manchester United are considering a move for Real Madrid’s defensive midfielder Lassana Diarra and believe that the arrival of Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu may well give Sir Alex Ferguson’s chances of sealing a deal for the Frenchman a real boost.
Having seen Owen Hargreaves suffer another injury set back and with the likes of Anderson and Michael Carrick suffering serious dips in form last term, the Old Trafford side could well do with an addition of more steel into their midfield.
The 25 year old former Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth man may well be tempted by a move back to the Premier League having had an up and down time in La Liga and with Jose Mourinho looking to bring a new set of Galaticos it seems highly likely that a number of his ever expanding squad will be on their way out before the new season gets underway.
Valued at around £22m the pint sized battling midfielder has shown what he can do in the English top tier and would therefore not be a risky investment and Real Madrid may well accept a lower bid to force a quick sale.
Clearly one stumbling block for any potential move would be the relationship between the two clubs which has been strained over the years following the repeat occasions the Spanish side has nabbed United talents. However perhaps under Mourinho, a manager that Ferguson respects, they could do business.
Previous interest in Diarra – Diarra, 25, is being discussed as a £20million target for Tottenham as well as Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson prepared to spend a significant sum to bolster his midfield. (Metro)
