Mancini may decide to give up on Italian youngster and try to bring Uruguayan goal machine to Eastlands instead.
Uruguay World Cup star Diego Forlan has reportedly emerged as a target for Manchester City .
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Atletico Madrid forward is on Roberto Mancini’s wish list, with the Manchester City boss having failed thus far to tie up a deal for Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli.
Forlan, the winner of the Golden Ball player of the tournament award in South Africa, had been linked with Tottenham, Juventus, Inter, Milan and Manchester United .
He has insisted he is staying at Atletico, but Mancini is hoping the mega-rich Eastlands outfit can lure the 31-year-old South American away from La Liga. (IMScouting)
Given that it seems likely Mario Balotelli’s demands are too excessive, even for Manchester City, Roberto Mancini is correct to consider a move for Diego Forlan a far more viable option. The Uruguayan had a terrific World Cup and has been in sparkling form in La Liga for the past six years and is probably more than happy to give Premier League football another shot.
Inter Milan youngster Balotelli appears to be after a whole lot more than the Eastlands side were willing to offer, which is really saying something, its a mistake the teenager may live to regret. A move for former Manchester United flop Forlan could well be a very intelligent one.
Atletico Madrid had an appalling season domestically and by all accounts the club is in severe financial dire straits so could well accept a big offer for the 31 year old. It is believed a bid in the region of £18 may get the Spanish sides interest and given Forlan’s strike rate of 145 goals in the past six seasons, it would be one hell of a good investment and one that would appear to have less of a risk to it than gambling on the still raw potential of the San Siro forward.
