Wenger desperate for new Emirates keeper!
Arsenal are ready to splash the cash to clinch the signing of long term target Hugo Lloris as Wenger looks to resolve his goalkeeping crisis. The French international keeper has long been linked with a move to the Emirates but his Lyon side have held off attempts to nab their highly rated goalie.
Arsene Wenger has watched on with horror as Lukasz Fabianski put in a terrible 1st half display against Legia Warsaw as the north London side scrapped home 6-5. The Pole’s performance was typical of his time at the club and Manuel Almunia seems just as poor an alternative as the Spaniard showed during last season when he made a catalogue of errors between the sticks.
Hugo Lloris has a safe pair of hands and has been a big success since his move to Lyon from Nice two seasons ago and the Gunners manager is ready to make a big bid to bring the 23 year old to the club. Wenger had reportedly made a £23m bid for Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and whilst a move for the French number one wouldn’t be that large it could end up costing a very large sum indeed, such is the value placed on him by his Ligue 1 employers.
Such is the importance to Wenger of having a secure custodian behind his back four that he may be willing to offer up to £18m for Lloris. Having failed in his moves for Reina and Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer it seems fairly clear just how crucial Arsene believes a new keeper would be to his sides title aspirations, hence his desire to offer big money to get the right man for the job.
