Time for another Drug Test?
WORLD superstar Diego Maradona has made a sensational bid to become the next manager of Aston Villa.
The controversial football legend is out of work after resigning as coach of Argentina last month.
Now his official European representative, Walter Soriano, has revealed Maradona wants to manage in England – by succeeding Martin O’Neill as boss of Villa.
He told the Sunday Mercury: “I think Diego would be very open to the idea of coming to England and managing Aston Villa.
“He is very attracted to English football and the way of life in your country and I know he would be very willing to move there.
“He loves the English countryside and your respect for privacy, so he would be very happy there, especially at a big club like Aston Villa.”
And Mr Soriano added: ‘‘If the owner Randy Lerner wants to make him a serious offer, I am sure he would get a very positive response.
“Diego is currently talking with a number of clubs in Europe – including another one in England – about a management role and is looking at his options carefully.”

This would indeed be sensational. Would Randy Lerner risk such an appointment? Is it an offer too good to refuse? There is no doubting Diego’s management ability but there is also no doubting his ability to behave like a mad man.
Also not sure if one’s love for English countryside will in some way act as a good enough reason to apply for the Aston Villa post. Kevin MacDonald had a fine start to his caretaker stint and may well be in the running to get the job full time.
Do Villa fans think that offering the job to Maradona would be like entrusting your chickens to a very crazy fox? Or would appointing such a legend of the game be a positive step forward?
