Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who has been courted by the club all summer. The Gunners are said to have made two offers in the region of £2m for the 37-year-old, who Wenger sees as the answer to his problems between the sticks. So far they have had no joy, but according to the Star believes that Arsenal are now prepared to swallow their pride and sign a cheque for £4m – Fulham’s asking price. (First Post)
So is Arsene Wenger ready to give in and stump up the fee for the veteran Aussie keeper? This source seems to suggest so. There have been some rumours going around that the Fulham goalie has already failed a medical but that may or may not be blind speculation. The fact the former Boro man has a back injury at present would of course explain any potential failed medical.
Arsenal kept a clean sheet against Blackpool but that appears to have had very little to do with Manuel Almunia, and the Spaniard’s position at the club does seem to be under threat. Arsene has stated that he has faith in the Emirates keeper but then makes a move for another custodian, which would seem to suggest a contradiction.
Mark Hughes will have been pleased with the performance of David Stockdale in the first two games of the season, especially the 24 year old’s penalty save late on yesterday.
