Manchester City’s Mario Balotelli is expected to overcome the knee injury he suffered on his match-winning debut in the Europa League.
James Milner is in line for his first City appearance, but Aleksandar Kolarov and Jerome Boateng remain sidelined.
Liverpool hope Javier Mascherano will return after missing Thursday’s Europa League tie, but Daniel Agger is a doubt with concussion.
Joe Cole begins a three-match ban following his red card against Arsenal.
Man City
Doubtful: Balotelli (knee)
Injured: Boateng (gashed leg), Bridge (toe), Kolarov (ankle)
Liverpool
Suspended: Cole (three matches)

Doubtful: Agger (concussion), Mascherano (calf) (BBC Sport)

This promises to be a crucial game for both sides at Eastlands. Roberto Mancini will be hoping for more from his side after an average display at White Hart Lane and will hope that new signings Mario Balotelli and James Milner can push the momentum up top whilst hoping Joe Hart can continue his fine form between the sticks.

Roy Hodgson goes into this match after a similarly uninspiring performance on day one and will have to ring the changes with Joe Cole out suspended. Both sides have top four aspirations and having seen the big guns perform well on the weekend, with the exception of faltering Man United, both will believe they need something from the game this evening.
