The Premier League is full of stars, and obviously some players are seen as more talented than others, but there are some who are simply overrated. Here is a list of ten players who are just not worth their value but Emirates, Anfield, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, Eastlands, Villa Park and White Hart Lane supporters may well disagree!

Top Ten Most Overrated Premier League Players

1. Joleon Lescott

Manchester City paid a reported £24million for the services of Joleon Lescott, Everton used £5million of that fee to bring Johnny Heitinga in as a replacement, arguably a much better player. On his day Lescott is a solid defender, but no more than that.

2. Michael Carrick

Carrick is a reliable player, but is he of Manchester United class? It was obvious that he was a talented midfield player from his younger days at West Ham, but throughout his career he has never seemed to light up a game.

3. Kenwyne Jones

Before his transfer to Stoke, Jones was linked with a move to the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, unsurprisingly, nothing materialised. He has never looked like a striker that could provide a team with 15-20 goals a season in the Premier League.

4. Peter Crouch

Teams have spent a lot of money on acquiring the services of Peter Crouch over the years. His scoring record for England is fantastic, but at club level it is not exactly the most impressive. A handy player to have in your squad, but that’s about it.

5. Dirk Kuyt

Dirk Kuyt has been a great servant to Liverpool, playing on the right wing rather than his preferred position up front, but he just never looks classy enough to provide that killer ball into the box. Surely it would make sense for Liverpool to bring in a genuine winger?

6. James Milner

A good asset to have seeing as he can play in a number of positions, but it will be difficult for Milner to justify the price tag that hangs over his head now he has made a big money move to Manchester City.

7. Matthew Upson

Throughout his career Upson always looked like a solid defender but nothing more than that. Has always lacked pace and it is almost unbelievable to think that he has earned over 20 England caps.

8. Gael Clichy

“He’s better than Ashley,” sang the Arsenal fans. He’s not.

9. Petr Cech

Often referred to as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but Petr Cech in not always the most convincing. Sometimes a little indecisive when coming for crosses, which is not an attribute that is usually associated with the world’s best goalkeepers.

10. Ashley Young

Once compared to Lionel Messi by Martin O’Neill, Young is a good player and often stands out for Aston Villa. When playing for England though, he has looked average at best, and for such an attacking player his goal tally must improve.

Any other suggestions? Is there someone that you think should not be worthy of their ridiculously high salary?
