Emirates boss sets sights on Ligue 1 man.
Arsenal are rumoured to be preparing a move for French international keeper Mickael Landreau and are hoping to clinch the signing of the Lille goalie before the transfer window after growing disillusioned in their attempts to sign Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer.
Landreau is a player with a vast catalogue of top level experience having notched up almost 500 Ligue 1 starts, but amazingly he is still just 31, which in keeping terms is still relatively young. The former Nantes and Paris St Germain man is said to be a player that Arsene Wenger greatly admires.
After seeing Lille draw their first three matches of the new season the solid goalie may feel that the timing is right for a new challenge and having never played outside his native France may feel that it is now or never in terms of a high profile move.
Such a move could bring Mickael back into the national team reckoning under new boss Laurent Blanc and would give the World Cup Runner Up the chance to ply his trade at Champions League level. He is thought to be valued in the region of £7m and cash strapped Lille may feel that such an offer would be too good to refuse
