Wigan have accepted an offer from Birmingham for French winger Charles N’Zogbia.

N’Zogbia’s future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer with the Frenchman thought to be keen on a move away from the DW Stadium.

A host of clubs including Sunderland and Marseille have been credited with an interest in N’Zogbia, but it appears Birmingham are set to win the race for signature.

Birmingham saw a bid rejected for N’Zogbia earlier this summer and Blues boss Alex McLeish revealed earlier this week that the club had tabled a new offer for the former Newcastle man.

Wigan have now reluctantly accepted Birmingham’s offer and the 24-year-old has been given permission to hold talks with Birmingham.

A Wigan statement read: “Wigan Athletic can confirm that they have accepted a much improved offer from Birmingham City for France winger Charles N’Zogbia, which has now met the club’s valuation.” (Sky Sports)

Birmingham City have been chasing French international N’Zogbia for quite some time now and Alex McLeish has finally got his man after upping an earlier bid of £9m to a reported £11m to secure the signing of the 24 year old former Newcastle United.

Now we could argue all day about whether the wide man is worth such a fee but the proof would of course be in the pudding. There is no doubting Charles has the talent it’s just that consistency has always been a barrier to a truly big move.

The St Andrews’ side will be hoping they can build on last season’s impressive ninth place finish and have invested large sums in some big summer signings like those of Nikola Zigic and Ben Foster.
