Emirates captain targeted by Champions League holders.
Inter have failed in an attempt to land Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal after their latest offer was met with opposition from Arsene Wenger, according to Sportmediaset.it.
Nerazzurri sporting director Marco Branca reportedly offered the Gunners €35 million plus the full rights to Ghana international Sulley Muntari.
But Wenger would not be pushed into bowing to pressure from the Milanese giants and he refused.
This coming just hours after Rafael Benitez spoke publicly about his desire to bring a top star to the club with the emphasis on a midfielder after he witnessed Javier Mascherano head to Barcelona. (Goal.com)
This appears to have been a fairly audacious attempt by Rafa Benitez to nab Cesc Fabregas but surely he knew he would always fail with such a move, if indeed this Italian source isn’t in fact simply creating speculation out of thin air.
Whereas the Arsenal skipper obviously has ties with Barcelona and hence the long running saga relating to a potential move to the Nou Camp, there seems to be no way whatsoever the Spanish international would entertain the notion of moving to the San Siro, regardless of their Champions League winner status.
Inter Milan looked pretty shabby against Atletico Madrid and the former Liverpool boss may have his work cut out as he tries to carry on the top notch job that Jose Mourinho and his predecessor Roberto Mancini, have done as Nerazzurri boss.
