Busy day at Anfield.
Liverpool have moved quickly to identify the Argentine’s replacement. Jorge Mendes, the agent of the Portuguese international Raul Meireles, arrived on Merseyside to discuss the 27 year-old’s terms and the club expect to announce his £10.7 million capture in the next 24 hours.
He will be joined at Anfield by Paul Konchesky, the Fulham full-back, who travelled to Liverpool for a medical yesterday. Alexander Kacaniklic and Lauri Dalla Valle, two of the club’s most promising youngsters, will move to Craven Cottage as part of the £3 million deal.
Daniel Pacheco has signed an improved contract to remain at Anfield for the next two years, while the young Spanish defender Daniel Ayala has agreed a season-long loan with Hull. (Telegraph)
It’s been a busy day at Anfield today. It was reported on this website that the departure of talented young pair Kacaniklic and Dalla Valle would play some part in the deal to bring left back Paul Konchesky to the club and so it has proven. It’s a good move for all concerned because even though the pair, especially Finnish striker Valle, appear to have good potential, they may find it easier to break through at Craven Cottage than on Merseyside.
The loan move for Daniel Ayala would also make a great deal of sense. The young Spaniard started two Premier League matches last term and acquitted himself well in two 4-0 wins but the arrival of Rangers defender Danny Wilson means he is even less likely to see first team action this term.
It could be that Hodgson has further deals to tie down tomorrow as he looks to strengthen his squad before the transfer slams shut.
