Rennes striker on his way to the Stadium of Light.
Asamoah Gyan has arrived at Sunderland ahead of his proposed move from Rennes to the Premier League club.
Gyan caught the eye at the 2010 World Cupafter scoring three goals for his country Ghana in South Africa.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is keen to bolster his frontline before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday, and Gyan has emerged as his top target.
It is understood that a deal in the region of £12million could be in the offing, set to be rubber-stamped following a medical and the agreement of personal terms.

Asamoah Gyan won over lots of admirers during his successful World Cup campaign with Ghana. Even missing that last ditch penalty against Uruguay failed to detract from a superb tournament. A move from mid table Rennes was always likely thereafter.
Steve Bruce has been looking to boost his attacking options and with Frazier Campbell injured on Sunday that move became even more imperative. The 24 year old striker has the physical stature to make it in the Premier League and always gives 100%. Will he get to wear the number three shirt though?
