WITH just 4 minutes’ worth of sand left in the transfer window hourglass, the news broke that Tottenham had launched a sensational last-ditch bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart, after apparently agreeing a sizeable £25 million (or €25 million, depending on which source you choose to believe) for the Dutch international.
If Spurs managed to file the relevant papers before the deadline passed then they will be granted a further period of grace in which to conduct their negotiations with Real and with Van der Vaart himself.
However, details of the potential transfer are understandably a little thin on the ground as I write this, but we’ll bring you updates as and when they filter through to us… (Who Ate All The Pies)
Well Harry Redknapp has pulled off something of a major coup in the dying minutes of the transfer window. The Real Madrid midfielder was clearly going to spend some more time brewing on the Bernabeu bench as Jose Mourinho brought in yet more Galaticos, leaving the Dutch international warming the bench once again.
The 27 year old attack minded midfielder has been criminally under used since his move from Hamburg to the La Liga giants in 2008. A move to White Hart Lane may well be just the new challenge he was looking for. The fact that the north London club can now offer Champions League football means that Redknapp can go in for the biggest names in the business.
This story is currently emblazoned everywhere from Sky to the BBC and all points between and looks to be gathering momentum. Have Spurs pulled off the big signing of the day?
