Manchester United continue to track Greek star Sotiris Ninis, with Sir Alex Ferguson aware of interest elsewhere in the exciting playmaker.
United monitored Ninis last season and sent scouts to watch him in action for Greek side Panathinaikos.
Ninis, who can play out wide or through the middle, is tipped as the next star of Greek football and United were very interested in him earlier this summer.
The 20-year-old was one of the few bright spots in Greece’s World Cup campaign and Jose Mourinho was interested in Ninis while he was at Inter Milan.
Ferguson sees Ninis as a potential successor to Paul Scholes and having missed out on Mesut Ozil this summer he’s desperate to land a playmaker next season – possibly even in January – and Ninis is on his list of targets.
The indications from the Panathinaikos camp are that they would be willing to do a deal that would see Ninis sign for United on a pre-contract agreement for next summer, on the condition he is loaned back to them for a season.
While the transfer window may be closed, United are constantly scouring Europe for players – and Ninis will be watched throughout the season. (TalkSPORT)
£12m rated Ninis is a player with a great deal of potential and has been linked with just about every major European team but it appears that Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping an even closer eye on the Panathinaikos man than most. This source believes a January move is very possible and the addition of more creativity to the Old Trafford midfield would make a great deal of sense.
Sir Alex has been injecting young talent into his Manchester United squad this summer by bringing in Javier Hernandez, Chris Smalling and Bebe and a move for the talented Greek international would be a wise one. Some will once again suggest that funds are not available for the Scot to further invest in his squad but David Gill has repeatedly stated that if needed money would be handed to Ferguson to make additions as and when he chooses to do so.
The 20 year old was in sparkling form last term helping his side to the domestic double and will be looking to further his reputation this term and therefore help his chances of securing a big money move.
