Ashley Cole’s flat was burgled while he was playing for England.
The Chelsea defender found it ransacked after the team’s 4-0 demolition of Bulgaria at Wembley.
It is thought thieves broke in to his swish pad on footballers’ row in Esher, Surrey, to swipe jewellery, cash and the keys to his sports cars.
However, police last night refused to comment on what had been stolen in the raid.
Cole, 29, moved to the flat after wife Cheryl threw him out of their mansion in Oxshott.
The burglary was reported at 6pm on Saturday. Cole had been staying at a hotel with his England teammates before Friday’s clash and returned late Saturday.
Police said: “We can confirm we are investigating a break-in.” Cole joins a long list of top footballers targeted during games, including Steven Gerrard.
So Ashley Cole is the latest player that this has happened to. It seems that football players have now become prime targets for thieves. Should anything be done by the F.A. to stop this sort of thing happening? Or is it up to the players to sort out their own security?
