White Hart Lane striker wanted by Juventus.
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is a target for Juventus.
Tuttosport says Juve’s new board want to make a big name signing in January after being stung by criticism of their summer market campaign.
Defoe is regarded highly inside Juve – particularly after his hat-trick for England on Friday night.
If Spurs are struggling in the Champions League, Juve will fancy their chances in prising Defoe away when the market reopens in the New Year. (Tuttosport as reported on Tribalfootball.com)
Given Jermain Defoe’s impressive hat-trick against Bulgaria last Friday the Tottenham man must fancy himself as a regular starter for the national team for the Euro 2012 qualifiers and the opportunity to pit himself against Europe’s elite in the Champions League will surely further consolidate his standing as one of the top strikers in the Premier League, but could a move to Serie A tempt him?
The 27 year old is of course back at White Hart Lane for a second spell following Harry Redknapp from Portsmouth and picking up more or less from where he left off. The former West Ham man has a great strike record in top tier football and has shown himself to be a deadly finisher.
Juventus, under new management, have been linked with many new faces both during the transfer window and indeed since the window slammed shut. Luigi Delneri brought in no less than 13 new players during the summer at great expense, including big name buys Milos Krasic, Alberto Aquilani, Simone Pepe and Fabio Quagliarella. The Turin club are keen to get themselves back up among the big boys after a disastrous season last term.
Harry Redknapp will of course fend off any moves for £22m rated Defoe but it would be interesting to see how tempted the pint sized striker would be in such a move if the north London club are not challenging for a top four spot come January.
