Old Trafford ready for huge bid from La Liga giants.
REAL MADRID are plotting to end Wayne Rooney’s Manchester United turmoil by setting aside £65million for a summer swoop.
The Manchester United striker has been plunged into despair by revelations about his private life and Real chief Joe Mourinho is ready to offer him an escape next summer if he decides he fancies a fresh start abroad.
Such a move is certain to infuriate Mourinho’s good friend Sir Alex Ferguson, who will fight tooth and nail to hang on to his star man.
But that is unlikely to prevent a bid from the Portuguese, who is a confessed admirer of Rooney.
Mourinho has already spoken of his desire to work with the player, but told Ferguson he could “rest easy” as a move for the player would be “impossible”.
However, that was before Rooney’s dirty linen was aired in public and Real president Florentino Perez is determined to let the hitman know there is an exit route to Spain if he needs one.
Mourinho has already told Perez that a new forward is crucial next summer and Perez sees as Rooney as the perfect marquee signing to kickstart the 2011-12 season.
The Real president has spoken to Rooney’s former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and was told he would love to link back up with his old strike partner.
Real will now ask Rooney’s representatives what his state of mind is and whether a move to the Bernabeu will appeal, and Perez has told Mourinho that 80m euros (£65m) will be put aside for if the indications come back positive.
Sources in Spain said: “A move for Rooney is not impossible.
“There were doubts that David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo would be allowed to join Real but both arrived at the club.”
Striker Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema could be offered as part of the deal, as could Brazil superstar Kaka, who has failed to make the impression it was hoped he would in Spain. (The People)
Whilst Sir Alex Ferguson may have felt compelled to sell previous Old Trafford stars to the La Liga giants the Scot will never consider allowing Wayne Rooney to leave Man United for the La Liga giants. Jose Mourinho is clearly a big fan and he may feel that given recent revelations that that the 24 year old may be considering his future in the English top tier, but surely such a move is doomed to failure.
The idea that Real Madrid would offer Kaka as part of any deal just seems to add a veil of pure fantasy that seems to punctuate many rumours created by The People. Clearly Rooney has a few personal issues to deal with but Ferguson knows just how crucial the former Everton man is to the Premier League side’s chances of wrestling their domestic title from Chelsea.
To top things off, the Glazers are unpopular enough as it is to even consider accepting any big money offer for the club’s prized asset. If the American owners chose to accept any bid they wouldn’t be able to show themselves within ten miles of Old Trafford.
So to sum up. Real Madrid may indeed be open to the idea of signing the prolific striker but they probably know that even making such an offer would be a big waste of their time.
