A week after Coleen Rooney learnt of her husband Wayne Rooney’s infidelities, she has told her friends and family she plans to take him back.
It came after the two met for the first time since last Sunday’s allegations that the Manchester United and England star had slept with a £1,200-a-night prostitute.
Friends said that the showdown was held against a background of ‘big family problems on both sides’ and much opposition to a reconciliation.Last night, after more than five hours of talks, the couple were said to have made some progress. Coleen left just after 8pm.
‘Mostly, though, it’s been Coleen shouting and Wayne grunting,’ said a close friend.
But despite her anger at her husband, Coleen has admitted she plans to forgive him.
A source told the News Of The World: ‘She married him for love. She said “I hate him right now, but deep down I know I love him and this is the man I should be with”.’
The Mail on Sunday understands that Rooney, 24, has been calling Coleen about six times a day as part of a concerted campaign to win her back.
He has said that his use of prostitutes was a terrible mistake and ultimately meant nothing to him.Before agreeing to meet her husband, Coleen was advised by her parents to seek a divorce.
Tony and Colette McLoughlin, who are Roman Catholics, believe she can no longer trust him and have made their feelings clear.
‘At the moment Coleen is coming across amazingly,’ said the friend.
‘She is dignified, she has said nothing, and she is carrying on, which is what she intends to do. Wayne has been on the phone begging to see her all week.
‘He didn’t want to face the music with his in-laws. There’s a lot of tension between them, and while Wayne was prepared to take abuse from Coleen, he wasn’t going to take it from her mum and dad.

I can understand Wayne’s reticence at meeting Coleen’s parents, in-laws can be trouble at the best of times and clearly if you have been hiring prostitutes the odds are that they will be a tad unhappy about the situation but if Rooney can cope with thousands of opposition supporters baying for his blood a trip to see them would surely be manageable.
So this source believes that marriage may not be doomed which is a little bit surprising and brings me to my next point. Would it have been better or worse if he hasn’t in fact paid for sex? Would things have been far worse if he had an affair that didn’t involve the transaction of money? That’s a tough one.
Some cynics are suggesting that if Coleen does take back her multi millionaire husband then it is simply because she doesn’t the like the idea of losing the lifestyle and money that goes with the Manchester United superstar. Surely however she would get a decent chunk of change in any divorce settlement anyway, no?
