Former Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri is hoping the Reds revive their interest in him.
The 18-year-old Swiss international rose to prominence last week with a wonder goal against England, and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is thought to have taken an interest in the player.
Under Rafa Benitez, the Reds were thought to be keen on a move for the player and monitored the player last season.
Aware of the interest in the past, the News of the World now reports that Shaqiri hopes the Anfield club will renew their interest following his goal in the Euro 2012 qualifier.
Hodgson, the former Swiss national team manager, is thought to have contacts still well positioned in the setup and could receive reports on the player’s progress should he wish to bring him to Liverpool.
A winger for FC Basel, Shaqiri helped his side to the Swiss Super League title and a Cup victory in his debut season for the club last season.
International honours have followed, with seven caps to his name already as a teenager.
A move to Liverpool appeals to the dazzling youngster, and the Merseyside outfit could make their move for the player when the transfer window reopens in January. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Whilst it would be unwise to judge a player on one moment of brilliance it does seem that teenager Xherdan Shaqiri has a great future ahead of him and if Roy Hodgson is using his Swiss connections to monitor the youngster then he must feel there is something worth keeping tabs on.
The 18 year old Yugoslav born winger helped Basel to a domestic double in his first season in the first team and a run in the Swiss national team set up followed and the youngster will get to pit his wits in the Champions League this season which will give Liverpool a good chance to see how Shaqiri does against superior opposition.
