Old Trafford boss faces battle to clinch promising Greek international signing.
Barcelona are ready to rival Manchester United in a move for Panathinaikos playmaker Sotiris Ninis.
The Catalans will keep a close eye on the 20-year-old when Panathinaikos come to the Nou Camp for the start of the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night.
United have long tracked Ninis, with a future £8million move mooted for a player who can operate on either wing or behind a centre forward.
AC Milan and Real Madrid have also tracked the Albania-born Greece international, but are already awash with attacking options.
Barca have have a squad thin on experience after missing out on top summer transfer target Cesc Fabregas, the Arsenal captain, and Pep Guardiola may be questioning his faith in what he has after a shock 2-0 home defeat by Hercules at the weekend.
Reports have suggested Ninis has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford, but Spanish sources are convinced that Barca can change his mind. (Daily Mail)
It seems a steady growing interest is streaming in for talented Greek youngster Sotiris Ninis and now Barcelona have got involved and threaten to derail Manchester United’s long rumoured move for the 20 year old playmaker.
Some may feel that Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t have a great deal of money to play with in terms bringing in new additions to Old Trafford but it is worth remembering that Barcelona are also apparently not very cash rich at the moment, which may sound insane given they have just forked out a large sum for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano, but apparently Pepe Guardiola will have to sell before he buys anyone new.
The talented Panathinaikos man is apparently odds on to leave this summer and a host of clubs are looking to snap up the pint sized adaptable attacker, but who will win the chase?
