White Hart Lane boss looks to beef up attacking options when transfer window re-opens.
Lazio fear that striker Mauro Zarate may have had his head turned by links to Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports in Italy claimed that Spurs were prepared to spend £16.5million on the Argentine hot shot as the transfer window was closing last month.
The 23-year-old, who has endured a testy relationship with Lazio and their fans, was substituted at half-time of his club’s 3-1 win against Bologna on Sunday and manager Edy Reja admitted: ‘I don’t know what’s happening to Zarate. (Daily Mail)
Given the recent injury sustained by star striker Jermain Defoe, it could be that Harry Redknapp is even more keen on Argentine striker Mauro Zarate and it seems that talk of a move away from the Italian capital has affected the pint sized star’s form and could well be set for a spell out of the Lazio first team as a result.
Tottenham have struggled to find the back of the net thus far this season with just three goals in four Premier League matches, all of which came from the midfield, and the latest tactic of playing one up front hasn’t appeared to help and a move for reinforcements in January seems a distinct possibility.
One obstacle in the way of such a move for the 23 year old former Birmingham City on loan player is the valuation placed on his shoulders. It has been reported that Lazio are heavily in debt and this could explain their attempts to push up the price towards an inflated £25m. Personally, even £16.5m seems wildly off kilter with the player’s recent form.
