Neither Liverpool or Manchester United have covered themselves in glory in their opening four Premier League matches but Sir Alex Ferguson will at least have the comfort of knowing that his side is still unbeaten and but for late slips at Craven Cottage and Goodison Park would be sitting joint top with Chelsea.
Roy Hodgson will have been pleased with his second string’s performance last night against Steaua Bucharest but knows that the trip to Old Trafford is an entirely different kettle of fish. However it is worth noting that Liverpool have won just once in their last 11 Premier League away games, and that at Burnley, and perhaps even more worryingly only managed to hit the back of the net seven times in those matches.
Sir Alex Ferguson will be without Luis Antonio Valencia after his agonising injury against Rangers. Hodgson, having rested his big name players from Europa League action, will hope that Fernando Torres can reignite his season after a poor series of displays thus far.
Nemanja Vidic has of course been sent off three times in the past four matches against their Merseyside opponents and Ferguson will be keen for the Serbian to avoid making that a quartet on Sunday.
