Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been charged by the Football Association with improper conduct at the end of the Gunners’ 1-1 draw at Sunderland.
Wenger appeared to confront fourth official Martin Atkinson after Darren Bent equalised for the Black Cats in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Atkinson had earlier shown on his board that four minutes would be played.
Wenger has until 23 September to decide whether to accept the charge or face an FA regulatory commission.
The Arsenal boss has been offered the standard punishment of a one-match touchline ban and an £8,000 fine if he accepts it.
Speaking after Saturday’s draw at the Stadium of Light, he said: “If you have a watch, you can control. It’s as simple as that.“It was outside the four minutes. I know the referee can give more than four, it’s a minimum of four minutes.
“But in the four minutes nothing happened to justify the extension of the time. But I cannot do anything about that.”
Wenger, 60, also denied that he had accosted Atkinson, stating: “I complain to nobody.” (BBC Sport)
