It has been reported that Sir Alex Ferguson made moves to try and bring Welsh attacker Craig Bellamy to Old Trafford in a move that would have caused quite a stir, so much so that the pint sized 31 year old decided it would be wiser to move to his hometown club, Cardiff City, instead of alienating his club’s fans.
Craig Bellamy hints at Manchester United transfer offer
The 31-year-old (pictured) had plenty of offers after falling out of favour at City but admits it would have needed a ‘miracle’ to move across Manchester.
He said: ‘Tottenham wasn’t going to get done and someone came in above them which would have caused a few stirs.’
Asked if he meant United, Bellamy added: ‘I ain’t gonna say anything but it would’ve been a tough couple of weeks.’
The rumours come just over 12 months after Carlos Tevez joined Bellamy’s parent club from their bitter cross-town rivals after United manager Sir Alex Ferguson declined to make his two-year loan permanent.
The Argentinean star became a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford, and has since achieved similar status at Eastlands – as well as being appointed team captain for this, his second season. (Metro)
It is interesting that Craig reveals this bombshell at this moment in time and perhaps it’s a deal that could be revived at a later date. For now the former Newcastle, Leeds and West Ham man is doing a fine job helping Dave Jones attempts to get the Bluebirds into the Premier League.
Cardiff City currently sit in second spot behind runaway Championship leaders QPR and have a great shot of making it into the English top tier for the first time since 1962.
