Real Madrid contract rebel Pepe has urged the club to sort out his future or risk losing him to Manchester United for nothing.
The Portuguese central defender’s contract expires at the end of next season – when he would be able to move clubs for free.
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring negotiations between Madrid and Pepe, who has 27 caps for Portugal.
The 27-year-old says he is calm over his future but wants the situation resolved as soon as possible.
“When Madrid show they intend to keep me, it would be logical to suggest my first option is them,” he told Marca.
“But we are footballers and when the club does not show an interest, it is obvious I’d have to find a life elsewhere.
“I have this season and then a year so I have time. If it was up to me, it would have been renewed by now because I love the team and the fans.” (TalkSPORT)
Perhaps the reason Jose Mourinho is waiting for the right time to offer Pepe a new contract has something to do with his tendency to literally explode on the field of play. The Portuguese international is a decent enough player but not someone I can see Sir Alex Ferguson pushing to bring to the club.
Now in his fourth season at the Bernabeu the former Porto man has never been a regular in the starting eleven but when he has been selected he has on more than one occasion been known to be a little bit temperamental. His most famous on field explosion led to a ten match ban after he kicked an opponent twice whilst he lay on the floor.
