Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly considering a move for Lyon’s Yoann Gourcuff. The Old Trafford manager is looking for new midfield options and has earmarked a move for the French international either in January or next summer.
The former Bordeaux man only moved to the Stade de Gerland in August but has apparently not settled well under Claude Puel and has seen his side slip to a disastrous start to the season as Lyon find themselves at the wrong end of the table in 17th place.
Lyon have managed just two wins from eight this season and are already some ten points off the title pace and Gourcuff’s performances have been strangely muted and he is reportedly not very happy at his new club.
Ferguson is looking to freshen up his Man United squad and is apparently a big admirer of the talented attack minded central midfielder and hopes that he can secure funds to make a significant bid for the 24 year old who is considered the midfield genius of Ligue 1.
Gourcuff’s last foray away from his native France was something of a failure as he failed to make an impact after a high profile move to AC Milan and after two seasons at the San Siro he was loaned out to Bordeaux where he helped Laurent Blanc’s side to a domestic title in his first season.
Considering his move to Lyon cost around £22m it would take at least the same sum to make the struggling French side consider a sale. The current French Footballer of the year would probably be very much interested in a move to the Premier League side where he could ably challenge for big honours that may well be beyond his current club.
