Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering making a double Serie A swoop to sign Lazio keeper Fernando Muslera and Juventus centre back Giorgio Chiellini as the Emirates manager looks to freshen up his defence. Having seen Manuel Almunia drop yet more clangers and the likes of Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci fail to beef up the Gunners back line a move for the talented pair is in the offing.
Uruguayan international Muslera was linked with a move to the north London club after a successful World Cup campaign but no solid bid was forthcoming. The 24 year old has gone on to have a great start to the season at the Stadio Olimpico helping his Rome based club to the top of the table. This unexpectedly successful start may make it harder to tempt the keeper to move although a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.
Giorgio Chiellini on the other hand has not experienced a good start to the new season. The Juventus defender would have hoped that new investment in the Turin club would have helped them make an impact in the domestic title race after a woeful seventh place finish last season, however the Old Lady of Italian football have struggled and seem no nearer to bridging the gap to the top and are not seen as genuine title contenders.
The 26 year old centre back is now in his sixth season at the club since his move from Fiorentina and the Italian international is no nearer to realising his dream of plying his trade for a team that can challenge for significant honours and therefore may be tempted by a new challenge and a move to the Premier League may tempt the solid defender.
