Aston Villa are eyeing up a move for Lille striker Gervinho as Gerard Houllier makes plans to bring in new signings in January. The Ivory Coast international has been in fine form this season helping Lille to an unbeaten start to the season and is a player that the new Villa Park boss sees as an ideal new addition to give the Midlands club a new attacking option.
Houllier has been impressed with his new side’s performances but still feels the club needs a more potent attack and with John Carew and Emile Heskey both entering the the later stages of their careers the Frenchman is hoping to sign Gervinho who can also operate on the wing as well as a orthodox striker.
Arsenal were linked with a move for the talented attacker who started two of his country’s World Cup matches this summer.
Gabriel Agbonlahor is still out injured and set for groin surgery and Houllier is looking to snap up the £8m rated 24 year old in January and may well believe the former Le Mans and Beveren man would jump at the chance of a high profile move to the Premier League.
