Gazza continues plunge into despair. Below an image we would prefer to have associated with the former footballing genius.
Paul Gascoigne is to face his second drink-driving charge this year, police have revealed.
The former England football star was pulled over in the Jesmond area of Newcastle, before being breathalysed by officers.
The troubled 43-year-old will appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on October 20.
It is the latest in a series of drink-related issues for the former Newcastle United, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton player, who has suffered with alcoholism for years.
He already faces a separate drink-driving charge dating back to February, which will be heard next month.
Last week, Gascoigne was lined up to become boss of Garforth Town, in the Evo-Stik First Division North League, but he pulled out of the deal.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in the Jesmond area at around 2.45pm on Friday, October 8.
“He was charged with driving with excess alcohol and bailed to appear before Newcastle Magistrates on October 20.” (Sky News)
As soon as Paul Gascoigne has appeared to turn down the offer of a new way into the game with Garforth Town, it seemed very likely that something like would once again occur. The former England legend simply can not exorcise his demons and without proper support from friends and family there is only one way this sad saga will end.
