ALEX FERGUSON has hit out at the surgeon who has treated Owen Hargreaves for publicly talking about his fitness.
Knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman claimed earlier this week the midfielder would be ready to face West Brom tomorrow after two years on the sidelines.
But Fergie claims he is now suffering from a minor calf complaint – and wants the doctor to pipe down.
He said: “Owen is not ready. He is injured. He has missed training for the last few days.
“We are having difficulty with the doctor in Colorado coming out with statements that are not accurate.
“It is not fair to the player for him to say Owen is going to be playing tomorrow.
“It is ridiculous. I pick the team and I have been doing it for quite a while.
“We have this small interference, which is causing some confusion. He is out with a calf injury.” (The Sun)
So it was indeed too good to be true. Owen Hargreaves has had a horrible time within injuries in recent years and it had looked like he was on the mend and ready to get back into the Old Trafford starting eleven but now it appears that he has another knock.
Sir Alex Ferguson does not appear to be best pleased with Hargreaves’ doctor but it seems likely that there has been something of a breakdown in communications as it would be a fool who would deliberately attempt to get on the wrong side of the Man United boss.
What probably happened was Owen left the doctor’s and was doing just fine but somewhere between the clinic and his car he probably felt another twinge, this time in his calf, that will probably rule him out for another seven years.
