ARSENAL are set to reignite their interest in Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti in the summer, according to reports in Italy.
The Gunners were linked with the 27-year-old throughout the summer but made no bid for the keeper, who would cost around £7m.
Cagliari officials have revealed that they are still not close to an agreement with any club, although Marchetti has admitted: “My dream is to play in another great foreign championship.”
Fellow Serie A club Roma are also said to be tracking the keeper but have made no official contract with the club.
However, reports in Italy have revealed that Arsenal scouts have recently assessed Marchetti with a view to a bid next summer. (TalkSPORT)
Arsene Wenger has been heavily linked with moves for a new keeper and these comments from Italian international Federico Marchetti will serve to help push him up the Arsenal boss’s wish list. If the north London club have already started the scouting process they will no doubt have been impressed with the 27 year old’s form of late, especially for the national team.
Marchetti has been in great form at Cagliari over the past two seasons but clearly feels he has outgrown the Sardinia based side and if he hopes to continue pushing his compatriots for regular international caps then a move away would appear to be neccessary.
