Tottenham are set to make a bid for Bolton central defender Gary Cahill in January.
The 24-year-old will cost around £15 million because of a clause inserted in the new contract that he signed recently.
But Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is anxious to bolster his options in the middle of his defence after the recent crop of injuries.

Whilst there is no doubt that Harry Redknapp is having something of a nightmare regarding his central defensive options, will he really look to spend even more money on replacements in January? He already has a list of internationals who are currently in the main, crocked. However some of those injured will presumably recover and therefore the need to spend such amounts on reinforcements may be a tad excessive.
The north London club has the liks of Jonathan Woodgate, Ledley King, Michael Dawson, William Gallas, Sebastien Bassong and Younes Kaboul to pick from, unfortunately the first two on this list have endemic problems that may well end their careers sooner rather than later.
It may be that one of those mentioned could be targeted and it seems more likely that Bolton man Gary Cahill would be the White Hart Lane boss’s first choice. The England international has been targeted by many clubs in recent months thanks to two very consistent seasons at the heart of the Reebok defence.
Which of the two would Tottenham fans prefer?
