Premier League side Liverpool are interested in securing the services of Barcelona attacker Nolito, according to reports.
TalkSPORT claims that the English side are one of five clubs keeping tabs on the Barcelona B player, who has been in scintillating form so far this season. Fiorentina, Monaco, Benfica, Panathinaikos and Spartak Moscow have also been linked with Nolito.
The 24-year-old’s current contract with Barcelona expires in the summer and he can start talking to clubs in January.
Nolito joined the Spanish champions in the summer of 2008 and made his debut for the first team on October 3 when he came on as a late substitute against Real Mallorca. (Goal.com)
This could well be a useful capture by Roy Hodgson and a financially intelligent one to boot. The 24 year old Barcelona man took a round about route to get to the Nou Camp academy and has been plying his trade in the club’s B side for two seasons but did manage to notch up his first senior appearance this term against Mallorca.
However it appear that the adaptable attacker is going to find it very hard to move up the pecking order under Pep Guardiola who is spoiled for choice when it comes to youthful talent and a number of players ahead of Nolito are significantly younger with the likes of Pedro and Bojan already far more experienced.
Liverpool would be taking a slight calculated risk on a player with very little top tier experience but given that it would only cost around £3m to tie up the deal it would be an inexpensive risk to take. The Merseyside club does not have that many attacking options to call upon and given that Nolito can play on both wings as well as a support striker, he may well be just what the club needs.
