Manchester United are planning a spending spree as he looks to bring in additions to his Old Trafford squad to help close the gap on champions elect Chelsea. Sir Alex Ferguson has earmarked moves for Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez, German keeper Manuel Neuer, Belgian midfielder Steven Defour and Dutch attacker Ibrahim Afellay.
After convincing Wayne Rooney that the club does have the funds and the ambition to attract top notch players to the club Ferguson is looking to bring complete moves for a quartet of targets that will help build on a new generation of talent that Ferguson hopes will signal a new era of success at the Premier League club.
With Edwin Van der Sar nearing the end of a glittering career United are looking to bring in Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer as a replacement and the Bundesliga club’s appalling start to the current campaign may well aid the completion of that deal.
Steven Defour has been linked with a move to Man United ever since Sir Alex penned a supportive letter to the Standard Liege midfielder during his lengthy spell out injured. PSV Eindhoven star Ibrahim Afellay may be snapped up in January after the Dutch international failed to hammer out a new contract leaving the 24 year old able to leave for nothing next summer, which in turn makes him a realistic capture on the cheap in January.
The final member of the quartet may prove to be the trickiest to snare. Alexis Sanchez seems fiercely loyal to his Udinese side who helped catapult the talented wide man to fame but as his side is once again battling relegation the 21 year old may feel he has no choice other than to leave, his side also needs funds to aid their financial problems and therefore he could well be sold to make ends meet.
Ferguson is known to be a big admirer of this £38m rated quartet and all have a great deal of potential and are of the right age to bring in to help populate a squad that has a fair few old faces that are nearing the end of their Old Trafford careers, hence the need to start planning for the future. Whilst Man United may struggle to land all four they are all nonetheless very high up on Sir Alex’s wish-list.
