An outsider has emerged as a potential replacement for under fire Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson. Atletico Madrid’s Quique Sanchez Flores is being considered as an option by the club who are ready to sack their current manager unless he can reverse the club’s alarming slide down the Premier League table and even though the Merseyside club registered a win against Blackburn a new appointment appears to be very much on the cards.
Florez is considered by many as the “Next Mourinho” after a very successful start to his managerial career and after two solid seasons as Rafa Benitez’s replacement at Valencia and a decent spell in Portugal with Benfica, the 45 year old had a great first season at the Vicente Calderon where he led Madrid’s ‘other’ club to a Europa League title.
Comparisons to ‘The Special One’ stem only from a very bright start to his managerial career rather than any tactical similarities. The former Real Madrid right back is a believer in free flowing attacking football he could well be just what Liverpool need in order to reignite their climb back towards their accustomed place in the top four. Florez may also believe he has taken his Atletico side as far as he can and therefore may welcome such a move.
The likes of Frank Rijkaard, Martin O’Neill and Kenny Dalglish are also among potential successors to teh Anfield throne but some Spanish sources believe that the club’s new owners may prefer to bring in an up and coming boss with real potential as they look to start a new era at a club desperately looking for a change in fortunes.
