Lionel Messi is convinced Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could still move to Barcelona.
Messi has watched Rooney’s contract backflip at United this past week.
And he said: “I would love the opportunity to play alongside him. I think it would be an explosive partnership if it ever happened.
“If he became available I’m sure Barcelona would be interested in bringing him to Spain and I would welcome that. It would be a magnificent signing for the club. (Tribalfootball.com)
Some sources appear to believe that even though Wayne Rooney has signed a lucrative five year deal an offer from Barcelona may still come in, which would be something of a surprise not least because the Catalan club is struggling with crippling debts and whilst Leo Messi may believe a deal could materialise in all likelihood it seems a pipe dream.
Clearly a few short days ago it all looked up in the air and it seemed highly likely that the Manchester United striker was on his way with many sides named a potential suitors but after the 25 year old signed a five year contract worth £65m, such talk seems less believable.
However do not underestimate Barcelona’s ability to play the media game in an effort to get who they want. Remember this is a club who for quite some time has mounted an endless campaign to sign Cesc Fabregas so do not be surprised if another Nou Camp player or coach comes out stating that they would love to play alongside Wayne.
