West Ham United 3-1 Stoke City: Carling Cup Highlights (Video)

by Mad Dog and Glory on October 28th, 2010 no comments

Whilst the Hammers would clearly much prefer some Premier League points this win in extra time over Stoke City at Upton Park may well serve to boost morale at the bottom of the table side. A late goal from Scott Parker took the Carling Cup encounter to extra time and a strike from Manuel Da Costa and composed strike from Victor Obinna turned this game on it’s head.

Newcastle United 0-4 Arsenal: Carling Cup Highlights (Video)

by Mad Dog and Glory on October 27th, 2010 15 comments

Arsenal fought their way past a determined Newcastle United side at St James’ Park. Arsene Wenger will be pleased with his side’s performance and the way his mixture of youth and experience simply had too much for Chris Hughton’s weakened side.

Even before Tim Krul scored a most unfortunate own goal the travelling Emirates side were in total control and whilst Wojciech Szczesny had a to make a few smart stops he was never really under too much pressure. Theo Walcott netted a second early on in the second half to end the home side’s hopes of progress to the Carling Cup Quarter Finals.

In the final ten minutes Newcastle started to put more pressure on the Arsenal defence but this simply gave the marauding Gunners more time and space going forward. Nicklas Bendtner took advantage with an expertly taken third for this second goal in four days. Theo Walcott broke the offside trap to add a well taken fourth.

(Video) The CaughtOffside Interview: Barcelona and Bulgaria Legend Hristo Stoichkov

by CaughtOffside Team on October 26th, 2010 Comments Off

This week we pulled off something of a master-stroke and got to sit down and chat with the footballing legend that is Hristo Stoichkov. For those of you have lived in isolation on an island your entire lives, the 44 year old did some rather special things with Barcelona and for his Bulgarian national team. In his two spells at the Nou Camp the talented marksman netted 117 goals and helped the Catalan giants to 5 La Liga titles, a European Cup triumph in 1992 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1997. He also helped his country to a fourth place finish in the 1994 World Cup.

We caught up with Hristo in Tel Aviv where he was helping to fund raise for Maccabi Yafo a team with rich connections to Stoichkov’s beloved Bulgaria and a team who prides itself on its links with both the Jewish and Arab communities of Jaffa. We discussed his involvement with this cause as well as many other issues including the development of fan owned clubs, the greed prevalent in the modern game as well as his future and his own treasured memories from a career littered with iconic moments.

Our interview is split into the two videos below, apologies in advance for the sound.
