Newcastle United battled for a well deserved win at the Emirates thanks to a goal from Andy Carroll late in the first half. Chris Hughton’s travelling St James’ Park side held on to the ball well and although they came under a great deal of pressure from the north London side they determinedly won through.
Tim Krul pulled off a couple of top drawer saves, the best of which was a full length dive to stop a Samir Nasri drive. Lukasz Fabianski at the other end dropped another clanger as he came for a ball he was never going to win and saw Andy Carroll barge his way in for the winning goal.
The three points take Newcastle United up into the top six and gave the Toon Army faithful plenty to celebrate on their way back home. Laurent Koscielny got a late red card, his second of the season, as he pulled down Nile Ranger.
