Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are currently leading the way in the race to sign Newcastle’s in form striker Andy Carroll, according to the News of the World.
Carroll is currently earning the plaudits and continues to press his case for a maiden England call up after scoring the winner at the weekend but his value currently stands at £15 million.
And, after the 21-year-old embarrassed Gunners keeper Lucasz Fabianski yesterday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted Carroll has ‘something special’.
Speaking after Arsenal’s 1-0 loss, Wenger said: “I’m convinced [Fabio] Capello will have a look at him. I believe he will be good enough to play for England.
“He has a kind of presence. It’s not down to me to select the player, but he has something special and he is efficient. I have been highly impressed by him.”
Meanwhile, the Emirates Stadium club will face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea if they are to secure his signature. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Now whilst it is true that Andy Carroll is having a tremendous season thus far would the young Englishman really be on Arsene Wenger’s radar? The hustle and bustle Newcastle United striker appears to be a different style of forward to that which the French boss tends to opt for. This is meant as no disrespect to the England hopeful, merely that he doesn’t strike me as an Arsenal type player.
Fabio Capello is rightly considering picking the Gateshead starlet for the forthcoming friendly with France and after netting six goals in ten Premier League matches this term, and laying a few more too boot, the rangy striker deserves that debut cap.
Chris Hughton is sure to fight off interest in one of his prized asset, a player who clearly has a great deal of potential and a great love for the St James’ Park side and one who is not likely to be tempted by a move away from the Toon Army any time soon.
