OK, so this is how it works. Each week we pick people from the footballing world to take us on in a prediction battle. The scoring system is mind-blowingly simple. You get the right direction of a result you get one point if you get the correct score you get three points. Thus far the COS Psychic is unbeaten, having defeated Bolton and England striker Kevin Davies, former Leeds United forward Jamie Forrester and Liverpool website Kopsource.
For this weekend’s games we take on much respected Man United Blog The Republik of Mancunia and BBC Reporter Jacqui Oatley.
Aston Villa Vs Man United
Editor
3-0 to Man United
Jacqui Oatley
2-1 to Man United – Villa missing a lot of players, United without Scholes but able to eek out results even when not at their best, as they did last Saturday.
RoM
2-0 to Man United – United haven’t lost for months and Villa Park is usually a happy enough place for us. United have hardly set the world alight this season but are doing a lot better than Villa this season, who, before their late minute win against Blackpool’s 2nd XI at home, had gone 5 games without a win.
Man City Vs Birmingham City
Editor
1-0 to Man City
Jacqui Oatley
2-0 to Man City – Manchester City will want to quieten folk who criticised them for being negative against Manchester United, while Birmingham can’t defend at the moment.
RoM
2-0 to Man City – City will have too much for Birmingham. Tevez has a game under his belt since his trip to Argentina and City will be wanting to prove a point after the slating they’ve received in the media for their defensive and anti-football tactics against United.
Newcastle Vs Fulham
Editor
2-0 to Newcastle
Jacqui Oatley
1-1 Draw – Which Newcastle will show up? The one that hammered Villa and Sunderland at St James’s Park or the one that lost at home to the likes of Blackpool and Stoke? Fulham are keen to stop us talking about Bobby Zamora’s backside (at Pompey on the opening day of last season). Still no away win since.
RoM
3-1 to Newcastle – Newcastle haven’t done too well at home so far this season. Fulham haven’t won away from home yet and I don’t see a change in luck this weekend. With Andy Carroll in my fantasy team, maybe this is what I want rather than the reality.
Tottenham Vs Blackburn Rovers
Editor
1-1 Draw
Jacqui Oatley
1-0 to Tottenham – Tricky to predict, just like Spurs at the moment. But Harry will get the better of Big Sam on this occasion.
RoM
2-1 to Tottenham – Spurs are so hit and miss but with their last CL game some time ago now, it should be business as usual for them.
West Ham vs Blackpool
Editor
2-1 to West Ham
Jacqui Oatley
2-2 Draw – Parker could do with some help from his West Ham team-mates. Blackpool’s first team to force further defensive errors.
RoM
2-1 to Blackpool – Blackpool to reap the benefits of resting their players at Villa. Harewood winner anyone?
Wigan Vs West Brom
Editor
1-1 Draw
Jacqui Oatley
1-0 to West Brom – Will we finally see an English goalscorer on the Wigan teamsheet? No. Albion to sneak it with Scharner to shine against his former club.
RoM
2-1 to West Brom – West Brom play some great football and will have too much for unreliable Wigan.
Wolves Vs Bolton
Editor
1-0 to Bolton
Jacqui Oatley
2-1 to Wolves – There’s a real rivalry between these two dating back many years and inflamed further by Bolton’s highly controversial victory in the 1995 Championship play-off semi-finals. Could be tasty but Wolves to bank a much-needed 3 points.
RoM
0-0 Draw – There’s always one game you would turn MOTD off for. This is it.
Stoke City Vs Liverpool
Editor
2-0 to Liverpool
Jacqui Oatley
2-2 Draw – Stoke on a high after late win against Birmingham, cancelled out by nervy Liverpool trying to prove they’ve turned the corner after their nightmare start to the season.
RoM
1-0 to Stoke City – Torres is back? Has the potential to get a hattrick or hobble off after 10 minutes after the first tackle. Either way, you imagine he makes us breaks the game.
Everton Vs Arsenal
Editor
1-1 Draw
Jacqui Oatley
1-0 to Arsenal – Closer than last season’s 6-1 drubbing but Arsenal’s quality to just squeak it.
RoM
2-1 to Arsenal – Everton will give it a good go but Arsenal with have the class to come out with the points.
Chelsea Vs Sunderland
Editor
4-0 to Chelsea
Jacqui Oatley
2-0 to Chelsea – Chelsea haven’t conceded at home in 9 league games and will have enough to make it 7 home wins out of 7.
RoM
3-0 to Chelsea – Bruce has started to do his bit to make up for the derby day massacre but you can’t see past an easy enough Chelsea win, even without Lampard.
