Manchester City are rumoured to be lining up a move for Dutchman Guud Hiddink as they consider axing Roberto Mancini after another below par performance saw the Eastlands side only manage a goalless draw at home to Birmingham City.
There is growing pressure on Mancini who has failed to see his summer signings gel and is struggling to hold onto his job after a disappointing start to the season. As a result it is believed that Hiddink has been earmarked as the top choice to replace the Italian if results do not improve.
Currently contracted as the Turkish national team boss, Hiddink has had a mixed start to his reign and Man City may well think they have the funds to persuade Turkey to allow the experienced 64 year old to leave his post as the Eastlands club would not be interested in having a coach who attempts to manage two jobs at the same time.
There is a growing feeling that if City are going to give Mancini the chop then they would do so before January transfer window so that they can hand any new boss the chance to reinvest in the squad. The Man City boss is currently the second favourite, after West Ham boss Avram Grant, to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.
Hiddink has had astonishing success across Europe both at club and country level and has proven himself in the Premier League during his time at Chelsea when he managed the club to just one defeat in 21 matches as Stamford Bridge boss.
