Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is set to sign for Premier League title contenders Arsenal after refusing to sign a new contract at Villa Park, according to reports.
The England international is reportedly looking to make the switch to the Emirates in the January transfer window, as reported by talkSPORT.
The 25-year-old insisted he would confer with the Midlands club regarding a new deal at the end of the season as he currently has one year left on his current contract.
However, reports suggest Arsene Wenger will snap up Young despite Villa manager Gerard Houllier’s desire to keep him. (Goal.com)
So there you have it. Quite why Arsenal would need more in the way of attacking threats on the wings is beyond me but this source seems to think the Aston Villa man is all set to move to the Emirates. Any move for the 25 year old would have to break the club’s transfer record and most sources value the England international as worth at least £18m. Whilst Arsene Wenger has got money to spend, would he really splash the cash in January for the Villa Park winger?
Gerard Houllier does appear to be fighting a losing battle to keep the former Watford man at the club, and having lost the likes of Gareth Barry and James Milner it seems increasingly difficult for the Midlands side to keep hold of their top talent.
The likes of Tottenham and Man City have also been linked with the talented wide man.
