Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Olympique Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff , according to sources cited by the German 4-4-2 Web site.
Tottenham will be without the injured Tom Huddlestone for the next three months, and with Niko Kranjcar eying a move away, Spurs could find themselves short of midfielders in their squad come the new year.
However, according to the report, Lyon say they won’t sell the 24-year-old for less than €25 million, far above what the north Londoners would be willing to pay.
Gourcuff moved to Lyon from Girondins Bordeaux in the summer for €22m, but has so far failed to meet expectations, with two goals and two assists in 14 games.
The 2008 France Football Young Player of the Year was linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester City in the summer before signing for Lyon, to whom he is contracted to until 2014. (IMScouting)
Some could argue that Tottenham have more than enough in terms of attack minded midfield options, what with the likes of Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart putting in quality performances and quality players like Niko Kranjcar sitting idly on the bench, but that said Harry Redknapp clearly likes to dabble in the transfer market.
Yoann Gourcuff is a quality player who has got his career back on track over the past three seasons following a poor spell in Italy with AC Milan and it may be tough to convince the midfielder to leave his native France again, unless it is for a move that feels right for the 24 year old.
The £21m price tag would represent a transfer record for the north London club and perhaps Redknapp feels that in order to build on the progress already made that the club, that big money must be spent.
