Liverpool are being linked with a shock January move for former striker Djibril Cisse.
The French international forward is reportedly on the verge of a Panthanaikos exit, and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is one of a number of Premier League managers thought to be considering a move for the player.
Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is also thought to be interested in the player, and could use his French connections in a bid to bring the player to Villa Park.
However, reports from France and the continent claim that Liverpool could make a substantial offer for the 29-year-old striker in the opening month of 2011.
A move would see Cisse return to Anfield, where he signed in 2004 and won a Champions League medal the following season. His two-season stint on Merseyside was interrupted by a leg break though, and the mercurial striker could have unfinished business with Liverpool.
An attacking foil for Fernando Torres is the reported priority, and Liverpool will have to pay in the region of €14 million for the former Sunderland loanee. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
This sounds a little hard to believe. There is no doubting that Djibril Cisse’s previous stint at Anfield was ruined by injury and prevented the French international from showing Liverpool just what he is capable of. There is also no doubting that the 29 year old has been a big success in Greece but his age could well count against him in terms of securing a move back to Merseyside.
Owners NESV have apparently made it clear to Roy Hodgson that they will only look to hand him funds for transfer additions that are long term prospects for the future and a move for a striker nearing 30 who has also had two horrific leg break injuries would not appear to satisfy this request.
