Inter Milan edged past Parma at the San Siro in a match that was closer than the scoreline suggests.

However, it was a former player who opened the scoring as Hernan Crespo fired the visitors into an early lead to increase the pressure on under fire manager Rafael Benitez. The European champions, though, responded in emphatic style with Dejan Syankovic (twice) and Esteban Cambiasso scoring for the Nerazzurri. But, Crespo grabbed his second before the break to make it 3-2 and on a knife edge.

It remained nervous for almost 30 minutes of the second half before Thiago Motta restored Inter’s two-goal advantage and then Stankovic made sure of the points when he wrapped up his hat trick.

Newcastle and Chelsea shared the points at St James Park in a match that the visitors dominated in terms of possession.

The Magpies were hoping to take advantage of a Chelsea team low on confidence and they got off to a dream start when striker Andy Carroll exploited a defensive mix-up between Alex and Petr Cech to tap in from close range.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men took the momentum into the second period where they played the game almost exclusively in Newcastle’s half.  Kalou and Daniel Sturridge both wasted good chances to win the game for Chelsea while Didier Drogba had a goal ruled out for offside as Chelsea made it three matches withiut a win in the Premier League.
